Polly Tearooms – the Great British Tradition

The Polly Tearooms has been a great British tradition for over 100 years and continues to be so. Polly’s is a small family owned independent business offering old fashioned hospitality.  Started in 1912 by two women, one of whom was one of the original suffragettes, as a place to meet for tea, Polly’s has served many with its delightful sweet treats including Sir John Betjeman and The Duchess of Cambridge when they were at school in Marlborough.  We strongly believe in upholding great British traditions and values such as the enjoyment of tea-time that we British do so well.  David and Annie bought Polly’s in 2013 (although the building is still owned by our landlords whose family ran the business for many years) and they have been devoted to upholding that tradition using fresh locally sourced ingredients whilst still making, baking and preparing everything by hand and embracing exciting new trends such as introducing vegan and gluten free dishes but still offering our unique old fashioned tea-time treats – our cake table is splendid! We have a fantastic team of staff both front of house and in our kitchen and bakery who make up the heart of Polly’s and we are very proud to employ them.

Polly’s is committed to playing a part in the local community and we endeavour to support local schools in their fundraising, the British Legion, the Air Ambulance, The Rotary Club and the Merchants House amongst others.  We are especially proud of our support for the Armed Forces and we give special discount to Armed Forces personnel.

We are open everyday and offer the finest breakfast, lunches and teas all prepared using the best ingredients from our fantastic suppliers such as Sumblers Butchers, Beechwood Farm free range eggs, Savernake apple juice, Ramsbury Brewery and Doves Farm.

Bakery

Our bakery is on location at the tea rooms in Marlborough, it's a place filled with busy people, not machines.

Long before the sunrise our brilliant bakers are dutifully preparing 'our daily bread'; traditional loaves, scones and delicious treats - just for you!

The rest of the bakery springs to life shortly after, our pastry makers and confectioners produce a dazzling selection of yummy treats.

The Duchess of Cambridge was at school in Marlborough and would often visit The Polly Tea Rooms with her friends sharing some of the same cakes will still bake today.

"She was very much a girl's girl and would go with friends to the Polly Tea Rooms for tea and blueberry muffins."

- Kate, A Biography - Marcia Moody

Our Suppliers

At the Polly Tea Rooms we value ethically and locally sourced products, that's why we make an extra effort to source products that are good for us and our community.

Our eggs are delivered from Beechwood Farm who take great pride in raising happy hens!

In addition our teas are all sourced from distributers who are in alliance with the Ethical Tea Partnership. The Ethical Tea Partnership work in improving the lives tea workers and their environments (ethicalteapartnership.org). We are also a proud member of the UK Tea & Infusions Association.

Our meat is supplied by Sumblers of Marlborough who source everything possible from local Wiltshire farms.

Paying close attention to the production of their meat, Sumblers assure all meat is carefully prepared for flavour, taste and tenderness.

The quality of our products is vital in making your experience at the Polly Tea Rooms the best it can be, and we are constantly looking to work with local farmers to ensure the products we use meet high standards.
